PodCamp Toronto 2010

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

As Dave Fleet put it  “hanging out with 900 friends” this past weekend  at PodCamp Toronto was a great experience. It was a great experience because:

1. I got to see some amazing presentations by some of the best in the industry.

2. I got to go with a friend & colleague who introduced me to many new people & ideas.

3. I got to meet some “friends” from social networks in person and realize that we can really be friends outside of twitter, facebook & other networks.

4. I got to network with over 900 people and not feel intimidated by names, brands or knowledge.

There was something there for everyone whether you were a newbie or an “Expert”

One of my favorite sessions was about Pie Charts. Sound Boring? nope. It wasn’t and I think it had a lot to do with the presenter Zoe Siskos. She was able to combine a deathly boring subject (to some) with a great sense of humour and a new approach to visualizing and creating pie charts. For a Graphic Designer this was especially refreshing. Never again will I design a pie chart in the shape of a pie.

There was even something there for the “mummy” in me. One of the sessions was a panel discussion with Erich Ehm about communities for women. Her website is one of my favorite mummy communities “The Yummy Mummy Club” which started from the need to vent about the very real, very difficult career of being a mom.

There is much to be said about these types of events I have never come home and said “that was a waste of time” Here is what a few local friends have said about the weekend:

Andrea Stenberg at The Baby Boomer Entrepreneur wrote a great post about making the most of going to an event like this.

Ryan Wiseman from “Take on the Web”  who was also a speaker at #pcto2010 (that’s twitter talk for PodCamp Toronto 2010) posted a video blog about the weekend here.

It truly was a fabulous weekend. Thank you to the many organizers, volunteers and speakers for making it so worth while. See you in 2011!

March 2009 News

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Wow! It’s already halfway though March. This past month has flown by for me. Some really exciting stuff has been going on in my office. March 26th will be my third anniversary. That is a big achievement in the small business world.  I’m happy to report that KLC is doing better than ever thanks to my amazing support system and my loyal customers.

I’ve been working on some very fun projects and getting involved in some great conversations using social media.

Last month I held two, 2.5 hr seminars in Chesley. They both had great responses and I will definitely be doing them again.

The first seminar was on “Branding your Small Business” we discussed how various things effect your brand and how to build a better brand. I had put together a Branding workbook that gave each participant a space to fill in thier ideal brand and implement the ideas into their businesses. I have received great feed back from the course and will hopefully holding it again in the fall.

The second seminar was an introduction to Social Media, and wow! the response has been terrific from that night. I took the participant through the various forms of social media from facebook to blogging to Microblogging on Twitter. I was very much an introductory course as there is so much to learn and so many various social media applications out there. Finding the right one for your business can be a long and overwhelming, but it can be a ton of fun as well! I’m going to try to post about the various one I use in the next few weeks. And if you ever have questions please don’t hesitate to ask! I have a great list of Social Media resources I can give you.

2009-logoSome really exciting news for Key Lime Creative. KLC was nominated for a S.C.O.B.E award! Jennifer Isber-Legg from ” The Bees Knees Flower’s and Cards.“  nominate KLC for “Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award”  Jennifer was last years recipient of the same award.

The award winners will be announced on May 6th at a Gala Awards Dinner. There were 41 nominations in all, 12 of them from Arran-Elderslie, 14 from Hanover, 9 from and six from West Grey. “The S.Co.B.E. Awards honour and recognize the excellence of businesses and entrepreneurs in Saugeen Community. The prestigious awards encourage community economic growth while at the same time promoting local businesses.” I can’t wait for May 6th to find out who the winners are. Thank you Jen, for the nomination. Good Luck to all the nominees! trh_mockdir_bookv2_sm

Like I said I have been working away on some very exciting projects. My biggest project to date is passing it’s first phase and will continue throughout the year. Susan Hewitson (or “Susan the Horse lady” as she is known by in her industry) of EquiVisions Unlimited is doing an amazing, if, daunting job of launching a Equine resource website and Print Directory, the Rural Horse.com is an online and offline printed resource of all things equine in Midwestern Ontario.  We have just finished producing all the materials need to help her market her directory at the upcoming Can-Am trade show in London, at the Western Fair Gounds, next weekend.

Susan Needs your help !

If you know someone in the horse industry, wether they own a horse or are a provider of services for horses, she want’s to know who you/they are! Sign up for a Web directory listing on her site or refer someone you know to it. Building the resource will be a community effort! Go to Http://www.theruralhorse.com to see the new site . Ryan Wiseman of RJG Creative did an amazing job of building the site and directory.

It’s a beautiful day and my kids need to release some energy so I’m going to leave it at that and go for a family walk and enjoy the sunshine. I hope you do too!
